Last Holly week, I went to Zipaquirá. I visited the Salt Cathedral which is the first wonder of Colombia. I really had a great time there.
The Salt Cathedral was built inside of the mine of Salt of Zipaquirá, which is a municipality of the Department of Cundinamarca Colombia.
It is not a true temple, it is more a turistic place, but sometimes people celebrate catholic ceremonies there.
At the entrance of the Salt Cathedral hundreds of colorful bulbs build the flags of the different countries of the world to welcome visitors
In 2007, in a contest to choose The Seven Wonder of Colombia, The Salt Cathedral was prized as the First Wonder of the Country.
The actual Salt Cathedral was designed by the architect Roswell Garavito Pearl and the technical engineering work was carried out by the engineer Enrique Castelblanco Reyes.
Inside the Salt Cathedral there is a wonderful artistic collection, specially sculptures which are made of marble and salt.
In the salt cathedral, the 15 stations of the path of the cross “viacrusis” are represented with 15 beautiful sculptures.
